A COLOR psychologist reveals the best and most harmful colors for your bedroom to help you get a great night’s sleep.

Geoff McKinnen, a certified sleep coach at Amerisleep, revealed in a new study that colors like blue, yellow, green, silver, orange, pink, and neutrals can reduce stress and soothe your nervous system.

Blue is one of the best colors to have in your bedroom as it’s associated with calm and relaxation, the study said.

It is also non-stimulating and causes the brain to produce more of the sleep-inducing chemical melatonin.

According to the study, yellow imitates sunlight, which in turn promotes calm and relaxation.

Bright yellow, however, should be avoided because it emits more energy.

Orange is a good choice because it has a warm tones. “reminiscent of a sandy beach, creating a welcoming space,” the study said.

McKinnen stated that green is another great choice, as it can be just as soothing as blue.

It’s important to pick a green that has more blue than yellow, so as not to increase your energy.

The study also suggests silver and pink as great options.

Avoid non-matte shavings as they can cause you to wake up when light reflects off.

Red should be avoided by pinks as well, since it produces cortisol (stress hormone) and stimulation hormone to keep them awake.

Red is not the only color that should be avoided.

The bright purple color had a red undertone which, as we have mentioned, keeps you awake.

The darkest greys can be depressing, while browns have a similar feeling.

Flat paint is recommended by the study, as it does not attract light.

McKinnen suggests that you keep your eyes open to soft, warm lighting.

The bedroom’s focal point is the bed. According to the report, white sheets are best as they don’t stimulate the brain.
