A VULNERABILITY in the latest iPhone operating system exposes your mobile to hackers.
Jose Rodriguez, a security researcher, published Monday’s video detailing how iOS 15’s bug allows attackers to access your Notes app.
Apple released iOS 15 on September 20, giving iPhones across the globe a fresh new design and some handy new features.
There are some security flaws that need to be addressed. The bug will be fixed by the company soon.
In his video, Rodriguez showed how he was able to bypass the iPhone lock screen to access Notes – the iPhone’s default notetaking app.
Notes can contain any information, from shopping lists to bank details, depending on who is using them.
To carry out the complicated break-in, an attacker will need access to your iPhone.
Rodriguez asks Siri to activate VoiceOver on his iPhone. VoiceOver allows you to hear what’s being said.
He then pulls down the Control Centre and navigates to Instant Notes, which allows someone to jot down a note without unlocking the phone.
Rodriguez then opens stopwatch. After a few taps, he can open the Notes app through VoiceOver.
Rodriguez is not only given the option of creating a new Note but also has access to all Notes stored on the iPhone.
Rodriguez eventually is able to have VoiceOver read out any Notes that are not allowed to be accessed from locked devices.
The researcher is able to even copy the Note and insert it into a text message.
The recording of the exploit, which works on iPhones running iOS 14.8 and iOS 15, was posted to Rodriguez’s YouTube channel.
Apple is quick to fix vulnerabilities in new software releases. Most often, they roll out a fix within a few working days.
