HBO Teaser: Music Industry Drama

HBO has released the second teaser trailer for its music industry drama seriesThe IdolStarring Lily-Rose Depp & Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye. (Watch it above.

The teaser debuted last night at the Weeknd’s concert in Las Vegas, a bit of meta-positioning as the series delves into the world of pop music and all of its excesses. The teaser is short and shows plenty of skin, debauchery and other hints. “That’s sex,”One character said it with her eyes fixed on her phone. “That’s what we’re selling.”

Co-created with Euphoria Tesfaye & Reza Fahim, creator Sam Levinson The Idol The film is set against Los Angeles’s music industry. The story follows a female singer who falls in love with an L.A. club owner, who is also the leader of a secret cult.

In April, the series was given a complete creative overhaul with Amy Seimetz (director) and Suzanna Sohn (actress) leaving.

In addition to Tesfaye and Depp, cast includes Blackpink’s Jennie, Juliebeth Gonzalez, Suzanna Son, Melanie Liburd, Tunde Adebimpe, Steve Zissis, Troye Sivan, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Nico Hiraga, along with Maya Eshet, Tyson Ritter, Kate Lyn Sheil, Liz Sierra and Finley Rose Slater. Character details are being kept under wraps.

Joe Epstein acts as writer and showrunner for the series. Levinson, Tesfaye, Fahim, Epstein, Ashley Levinson, Kevin Turen, Bron Studios’ Aaron L. Gilbert executive produce. Mary Laws has written on Succession Preacherco-exec produces and writes. The Weeknd’s manager Wassim “SAL”Slaiby and La Mar C. Taylor, creative director, also co-exec produce.
