Giancarlo Esposito confirms Marvel Talks, and says he wants Professor X to be his character

Marvel revealed the entire MCU Phase 5 at Comic-Con a few week ago, and also unveiled three major titles for Phase 6. But we still don’t have an announcement for the rumored The Mutants movie that will bring Marvel’s X-Men to the MCU. Rumours suggest that it could be many years before mutants join the Avengers. But some actors are already excited about the prospect, with Giancarlo Esposito having just confirmed that he wants to play the X-Men’s iconic Professor X.

Over the weekend, Esposito took to the stage at Celebrity Fan Fest Texas where he confirmed talks between Marvel and him. It’s in this context that Esposito addressed rumors about the MCU character that he might play. Keep in mind, Below are some spoilers.

Marvel has the mutants back in 2019, after Disney acquired Fox. Deadpool and the X-Men were finally available for the MCU. Fox also allowed for the possibility of Fantastic FourThe MCU will soon be rebooted.

Marvel was slow to announce X-Men projects. The pandemic gave Marvel additional time to rethink his mutant strategy.

When will the X-Men join MCU?

The studio hasn’t shied away from adding X-Men adventures to the MCU, but we’re mainly looking at animated series. The MCU also got its first Professor X in the X-Men’s leader’s appearance earlier this year. Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness.

In the movie, Charles Xavier was played by Patrick Stewart. But this was a mutant from Earth-838 rather than the MCU’s primary reality.

Marvel’s multiverse rules made it clear that a character doesn’t have to look the same in every universe. Loki There is no way homeare the best examples. Not to mention that 838 Xavier died, so there’s little chance we’ll see that Professor X variant again.

Marvel did acknowledge the existence mutants in their MCU timeline a few week ago. Ms. Marvel finale aired. Kamala Khan (Iman Vallani) is the big X-Men reveal at the MCU.

Explaining the mutants’ existence in the MCU is also problematic for Marvel. Marvel must find a way to make everything work, considering that there was no way to use any X-Men until the 2019 Fox deal.

Rumours suggest that Marvel might be prevented from reviving the X-Men stories by Fox contracts. These contracts could expire in 2025. In the worst case scenario, the mutants may not be able to join the MCU until Phase 7.

Rumors dating back to 2019 claimed that Marvel planned a few significant changes for the MCU’s X-Men. The studio was looking into having people of color play both Magneto as well as Professor X. The pandemic delays followed, and the MCU’s X-Men casting choices didn’t come up as much.

Giancarlo Esposito is interested in playing Professor X

Reports recently claimed that Giancarlo Esposito had met with Marvel to discuss a role. He was known for playing bad characters in TV shows. Gus Fring was his name in Breaking Bad Moff GideonIn Mandalorian. Esposito might be most likely to choose a role as a villain.

The actor still wants to play Professor X. In his talk at Celebrity Fan Fest he stated the same. He spoke about how stories like these inspire whole generations and motivate them in real life.

“I have not worked for Marvel yet,” Esposito said. “I have been in the room with them and talked to them. There’s talks of Magneto, Dr. Reed, Dr. Doom… and Professor X.”

“I’m gonna go with something a little bit different… I’m gonna go and put it out in the universe that it is Professor X,”When asked for his opinion, the actor replied that he would pick a character.

That’s not a confirmation that Giancarlo Esposito will play Professor X. Marvel should announce such a major X-Men event sometime in the future. We do know what Esposito would love to do. And having Esposito play Charles Xavier is certainly an exciting prospect, one Marvel should definitely explore if it’s not doing so already.
