The American miniseries ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ is set in the ’60s following the life of an orphaned child chess prodigy who dives into a world of greatness and madness. Based on Walter Tevis’s 1983 novel, the series has no shortage when it comes to awards having won two Golden Globe Awards and much more for the cast. The eccentric series was released by Netflix on October 23, 2020, claiming many positive reviews within a short period of time with a good reception from numerous chess communities.

A chess prodigy, Elizabeth Harmon, was orphaned at an early age following the death of her mother in a car crash. Life begins to take a turn after the chess prodigy begins to climb up the ladder of competitive chess with ease in a journey to find her penultimate challenge. Exploring the common practice of tranquilizer drugs being used in orphanages in the ’60s, the series shows similar events portraying mental distortion and drug abuse which seemingly enhances the prodigy’s visualization talent.

Many would expect the critically acclaimed series to see a future in which the other side of the prodigy could be shown, touring more of her personal life. However, the production team seems pretty content with the work they produced claiming it to have exceeded expectations and a masterpiece performance by the star-studded lineup served as the series’s own tranquilizer.

Another notable fact is that there are pages left unwritten in terms of a sequel to the novel. Being a series that followed every event as per the novel, there aren’t many loose ends which it could catch on to create a sequel.
