Elza Soares, Brazilian singer/samba icon, has passed away at 91

RIO DE JANEIRO — BrazilianFamily members reported that Elza Soares, a Brazilian samba singer, passed away in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday afternoon. Artist’s official Instagram account. She was 91.

According to the family, Soares died from ‘natural causes’ but did not give any further details.

In another Instagram post, the family shared that Soares’ wake will be held Friday at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro and that she will be memorialized at Sulacap Jardim da Saudade cemetery.

The public will not be allowed to enter the burial.
