Dylan McDermott will take over as the lead in Dick Wolf’s “FBI: Most Wanted” on CBS

Dylan McDermott has joined CBS’ “FBI: Most Wanted,” where he’ll play the show’s new lead character after star Julian McMahon exits in March, has confirmed.

This means, however, that he’ll be wrapping up his recurring role on another Dick Wolf-produced show, “Law & Order: Organized Crime.”

Details about McDermott’s “FBI: Most Wanted” role are not public at the moment, but he will be playing a completely new character and will debut in episode 17 of the show’s current third season. McMahon, who has played Jess LaCroix, leader of the show’s fictional FBI unit since the show’s Jan. 2020 premiere, will exit the show March 17.

McDermott portrays Richard Wheatley as Richard Wheatley, a well-heeled criminal boss “Law & Order: Organized Crime”; he was a main cast member in the show’s first season and signed on to recur in Season 2. That character’s storyline will be concluded as McDermott makes the move over to CBS, though the exact timeline, or plot details, have not been disclosed.

Deadline first reported on the news.
