Disney+ Purchases BBC Dramas ‘The A Word’ & ‘Ralph & Katie’Mipcom

EXCLUSIVEDisney+ has reached a deal with BBC to air hit dramasThe A Word And spin-off Ralph & Katie Keshet International

This deal will include all three seasons of Christopher Eccleston-starrer The A Word And Ralph & Katie’s Disney+ is licensed for the debut across EMEA.

The A Word Available on Disney+, it is currently available in the Nordics, Belgium, and France. There will be staggered launches for Portugal, Spain and France beginning November. Germany and Austria will follow.

The news broke on the first day at Mipcom in Cannes, where Israeli powerhouse Keshet was present.

These shows are based upon Israeli family drama Yellow Peppers Keren Margalit, Keshet Broadcasting created it.

Peter Bowker, showrunner, has redefined the UK’s landscape of disability representation in drama. Ralph & KatieThe exploits of two are followed by. A Word characters with Down’s Syndrome, was forged by one of the first ever all-disabled writers’ rooms for a mainstream longform drama and is the first to feature two leads with Down’s Syndrome. Deadline recently heard from Bowker: “There is so much talent bubbling away within these [disabled] stories. The hunger to be heard is there and there is no real excuse why disabled writers shouldn’t get work.”

Produced in collaboration with Fifty Fathoms, Tiger Aspect and Tiger Aspect. The A Word Follow the story of a five-year old boy with communication issues. His dysfunctional family has to learn to accept his autism as well as their social disorder.
