Catherine Cortez Masto to Win Nevada Senate Seat. Democrats Retain Control Of Upper Chamber

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) was projected to win reelection over Adam Laxalt in Nevada’s U.S. Senate race, assuring Democratic control of the Senate.

The networks were able to call the race for Cortez Mato. Cortez was not able to vote until final mail in ballots were received in counties like Clark or Washoe.

Coupled with the reelection of Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) in the Arizona Senate race, Cortez Masto’s razor-thin victory gives Democrats a sense of relief, assuring that they will have at least 50 seats. It would have meant that Sen. Raphael Warnock (D–GA) and Republican Herschel Walking would have determined who controls this chamber if they lost the race. Now, even if Democrats lose the seat, they will still hold control of the 50-50 Senate. However, Vice President Kamala Harris can break a tie vote.

Like Kelly’s race, Cortez Masto’s reelection bid was targeted by Republicans as a key pickup opportunity this cycle. But it was apparent on Tuesday that the GOP’s hopes of a “red wave”They were defeated by Democrats, who defended seats in the House and won the most closely viewed contest of the cycle when John Fetterman beat Republican Mehmet Oz.

Although Republicans have a chance to win control of the House, they will not be able to do so with a majority of Republicans in California and other states. It is too early or too close for now.
