Larry Harvey and John Law founded The Burning Man in San Francisco, California in 1986.
The event has grown over the years, with nearly 80,000 attendees in 2019.

This year, the event will be held on August 27, and last for nine days. It concludes on September 4, 2023.
Each Burning Man gathering has its own theme. The theme for this year is Animalia.
The designers will be creating a variety of installations inspired by animals.

Burning Man was originally conceived as a festival of bonfires.
The event founders called the bonfire “the Man” because it was in the shape of a man.
The bonfire has been a centerpiece for the event since 1986.
