Britney Spears' Mother, Dad and Ex-Attorney are Denied a Pool of Funds from Conservatorship

  • Britney Spears’s and Jamie Spears lawyers clashed during a Wednesday hearing.
  • Britney Spears’ lawyer claimed that Jamie Spears did not deserve attorney fees.
  • Judge Brenda Penny ruled in favor of Ms. Spears, ruling that no funds had to be saved.

During a contentious hearing on Wednesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny denied a request to create a reserve of funds from Britney Spears’ former conservatorship that would be used to pay attorney fees for Jamie Spears and Lynne Spears, and to her former attorney Samuel D. Ingham, III.

Britney Spears was under a 13-year conservatorship, which gave a group of people (including her father) control over her financial, personal and medical decisions.

On September 7, Jamie Spears filed a petition to end Britney Spears’ conservatorship, which the pop star’s legal team labeled as a “massive”Legal victory. The conservatorship was officially terminated on November 12.

Even though the conservatorship has ended, financial details remain to be worked out. These include who would pay for the retained attorneys during the conservatorship.

Mathew Rosengart was Spears’ attorney and filed a 250-page response to Jamie’s request for continuing financial assistance. However, because of the federal holiday, the documents were not made available to the public until Tuesday night. Jamie Spears’ lawyers were unable to access the document.

Penny informed the court that she would not rule on Rosengart’s motions, pointing out that the fees were. “matters that were languishing.”

Firms are requesting millions of dollars in attorney fees from Britney Spears’ estate, according to filings, and Holland & Knight, who formerly represented Jamie Spears, is requesting more than a million dollars alone.

Rosengart refused to approve Ingham’s or Spears’ attorneys’ fees during a heated exchange. He also stated that he was against discussing the payment of attorney fees before discovery was completed and Penny had the opportunity to review the allegations made in his most recent filing.

Penny eventually ruled that a reserve fund of conservatorship funds wouldn’t be created specifically to pay attorney fee, but that Britney Spears estate motions to pay fees would remain on the table until a July hearing.

Penny also ruled in favor of Jodi Montgomery’s termination plan, which could be sealed to protect Britney and her medical information. She also approved Montgomery’s fees and the court did not object.

Lynne Spears will separately hear a petition for attorney fees on March 16.

To be considered at a later stage for explosive allegations

Rosengart made allegations about Jamie Spears’s conduct during the hearing. Rosengart also filed over 250 pages of court documents. “monitored, captured and reviewed Ms. Spears’ communications and therapy notes,”Throughout the entire duration of the conservatorship.

“Black Box Security, at the direction of Jamie Spears, placed a listening device in Britney Spears’ bedroom,”Rosengart spoke to the court, referring to a story by The New York Times that quoted a whistleblower for the company.

Rosengart also presented the sworn statements of Sherine, an ex-FBI agent and lead investigator in Robert Mueller’s case involving former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort. These declarations corroborated those made by the Black Box whistleblower. Rosengart stated that his discovery process was hampered by slow, inept turnover of documents from Jamie Spears’ team.

Weingarten resisted the suggestion, and Rosengart filed.

“Virtually everything alleged was a lie. They are all nonsense,”Weingarten spoke to the court. Weingarten stated to the court that they had received 27 media inquiries regarding the document by the time Rosengart’s objection was received by their office.

Rosengart, he claimed, leaked documents and planted stories with the intention of citing these stories in court documents.

“Lies!”Rosengart pointed at Weingarten and told Penny, while simultaneously telling the court that Rosengart had lied under oath. “I learned about these allegations when they came out. Let’s see what happens when Mr. Spears is deposed under oath.”

“The truth of all of this will come in another hearing,”Penny said that Penny had asked the pair to stop fighting over the objections filed.

Throughout the remainder of the hearing, Weingarten asked for Penny to unseal the entirety of Britney Spears’ conservatorship file to prove that Jamie Spears did no wrong during the timespan — a move that Rosengart strongly objected to on the grounds that it was a breach of privacy.

“A father who loves his daughter wouldn’t move to unseal her personal information,”Rosengart explained to the court.

Next steps in the continuing dispute over the termination conservatorship

John Zabel was today’s temporary financial conservator and his powers were withdrawn. A seven-day extension was granted to transfer funds from Britney’s conservatorship to Britney.

Penny set a July 27, hearing date. She stated that she hoped parties would have finished their discovery processes and any new evidence could be brought to her attention.
