Sandhaven Beach in Tyne & Wear has topped this year’s list with reviewer Chris Haslam hailing saying it “ticked all the boxes”.

This beach, measuring approximately one mile in length, was awarded the top spot due to its regular maintenance.

It was also awarded for its preservation of Victorian heritage.

Nick Jones, the owner of the South Shields Surf School, stated: “Few people beyond South Shields know about Sandhaven, but those who use the beach are passionate about protecting it and proud to share it.”

2. Mablethorpe (Lincolnshire)

South Shields of Lincolnshire’s Mablethorpe took second place.

It’s the first time the beach has made it to the guide, but the spot is well known to those in the east.

The area was named as one of the most impoverished areas in the country in 2019.

However, since then £24million has been injected into the community after it was gifted a government grant.

3. Lunan Bay

This beauty from Scotland is ranked number three.

It’s known for its surfing, fishing and horseback riding – but the views are just as amazing as the activities.

It is surrounded by beautiful sand and the remains of a castle from 12th century.
