He also urged Brits who are eligible to have their boosters administered as soon as possible in order to avoid any new restrictions in winter.

Boris appeared in Downing St, flanked by Professor Chris Whitty, Chief Medical Officer, and Sir Patrick Vallance Chief Scientific Adviser.

Here are his thoughts on Covid.

The state of the pandemic

The PM acknowledged that the number of cases in Britain has been increasing over recent days. He also said that people were being taken to court. “must remain vigilant”.

He expressed concern over the increase in European cases and insisted “history shows we cannot afford to be complacent”.

He said that many of the worst-affected countries on the continent have low vaccination rates.

He also added: “This shows us once again that if we want to control the epidemic here in the UK, and if we want to avoid new restrictions on our daily lives, we must all get vaccinated as soon as we are eligible.”

Prof Whitty advised people not to take too much from daily fluctuations in case number and stated that infections have remained relatively flat for a long time.

Are there any new restrictions?

Boris stated that there is still no data suggesting the country should move to Plan B.

These would include mandatory mask wear, working from home, as well as the introduction of vaccine passports.

The PM, however, cautioned against the possibility of harsher measures such as a Christmas lockdown when asked if he could. “cannot rule anything out”.

Professor Whitty stated that Plan B is not necessary at the moment, as case rates aren’t rising like elsewhere in Europe.

He also added: “Obviously if they did that would be a situation where we would have to look again at what the situation is at that stage.”

Announcements from Jabs

In an attempt to prevent a new wave of winter flusms, the PM announced that the booster jabs program will be extended to all over 40s.

He spoke highly of the number of Brits that came forward for the top up shot and stated it was a wonderful thing. “crucial”Everybody gets the extra protection

12.6 Million people have already received theirs, which includes three quarters of all those over 70.

The PM stated: “It would be an utter tragedy if, after everything we have been through, people who had done the right thing by getting double vaccinated ended up becoming seriously ill or even losing their lives because they allowed their immunity to wane by not getting their booster.”

Boris also announced that teenage girls aged 16-17 will be able receive the second dose from Pfizer.

Full vaccination

Boris confirmed that Brits will need a booster jab in the future to be fully vaccinated and travel hassle-free.

People who have been fully vaccinated can be allowed to return from holiday on the continent without being quarantined and receive cheaper tests.

Ministers strongly suggested that they would change the definition to include top shots.

The PM stated that “It’s clear getting your booster is an important fact, and it will make your life easier in all kinds of ways.”

“The two jabs sadly do start to wane, so we’ve got to be responsible and we’ve got to reflect that fact in the way we measure what constitutes full vaccination.”

NHS under Pressure

Prof Whitty claimed that the NHS is currently facing a crisis. “difficult winter”As Covid cases rise, so do the challenges of the annual flu season.

The chief medical officer for England acknowledged that some parts of the country’s health service are already facing. “significant pressures”.

He said areas including the ambulance system and A&E wards are facing the brunt of the impact.

The top scientist stated that “I think we have a tough winter ahead of us.” That is an accepted position.

“Which is why all health staff would reiterate the point the PM has made about encouraging people to get vaccinated.”
