American Airlines Flight from Florida to London Reverses When Passenger Refuses to Wear Mask

An American Airlines flight that took off from Miami Wednesday had to turn right back around after a passenger refused to wear their mask, the airline said.

The incident occurred while Flight 38 was on its way to London, carrying 129 passengers.

According to the airline, authorities met the plane at Miami International Airport after it returned.

“We thank our crew for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience,”American Airlines released a statement.

The flight was in air for about an hour before it had time to turn around. WFOR-TV reported.

The station was told by passengers that they were shocked.

“They wouldn’t really say anything, and I don’t believe they told the flight attendants anything, either, because they said all they could say was there was an extreme incident with a passenger and they had to turn around,”She spoke to the station.

According to the FAA, there were 151 incidents involving unruly passengers this year as of Tuesday. Ninety-two of those incidents were related to having to wear masks.
