All you need to know about the Women’s Euro 2022

The Women’s Euro 2020 tournament has finally begun.

The event was delayed for one year because of the men’s Euros competition. In addition, the 2020 Olympic Games will take place in 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. 16 countries participating in the event will be competing against each others to be the European champions.

The competition will be hosted by England. The first game will take place at Old Trafford on July 6, when England’s Lionesses face off against Austria. The final match will take place at Wembley, July 31.

Which countries are at war?

There are 16 countries participating in the Women’s Euro 2022 competition.

These are the countries:

  • Netherlands (defending champions)
  • Northern Ireland

  • Germany
  • Spain
  • Belgium
  • Italy
  • Portugal
  • Sweden
  • Norway
  • Denmark
  • Switzerland
  • Austria
  • Iceland

What is the nature of competition?

There are four groups in the tournament with four teams. The top two teams in each group will advance to the knockout and quarterfinals.

How does the qualification process work?

The tournament is automatically qualified for hosts. England, which has already qualified this year with the other 15 countries, had to go through an even more rigorous qualification process. There were group stages that began in August 2019 and ended in September 2019.

The winners of the group stage advanced to the play-offs, which took place in April 2021.

What venues host matches?

England hosts Women’s Euro 2022 in England. Ten stadiums will host the matches. These include Old Trafford and Bramall Lane, St Mary’s and St Mary’s.

What’s the history of Women’s Euro 2022?

The Women’s Euros, originally called European Competition for Women’s Football, was established in 1982. first establishedThe first tournament was held in 1984, two years later.

Sweden won the competition in six European stadiums. England was defeated on penalties by Sweden in a final at Luton Town’s Kenilworth Road.

The competition was hosted by Norway three years later. They won the contest 2-1 over the defending champions, Sweden.

Over the next few decades, Germany won the title in both 1989 and 1991. While Norway won in 1993 and 1993 respectively, Germany regained the top spot in 1995. They remained at the top until 2013, when they took over the tournament.

The Netherlands, the hosts of the 2017 Women’s Euros, won the competition for their first time.

What countries have won the tournament in the past?

Germany is the European champion in history, with eight European championships under its belt.Most successful national teamThey won every final in the Women’s Euros.

Norway won the tournament twice while Sweden and The Netherlands were victorious once.

England is yet to bring football home but they, along with Italy, have reached the finals twice. Denmark was also in the finals once (in 2017).
