Adele’s blockbuster weekend surrounding the release of her latest album “30” continues with yet another accomplishment: the singer-songwriter convinced Spotify to disable its automatic shuffling of albums.
“This was the only request I had in our ever changing industry!” she detailed in a Saturday tweet. “We don’t create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason. Our art tells a story and our stories should be listened to as we intended. Thank you Spotify for listening.”
“Anything for you,” Spotify’s Twitter account replied.
Stereogum noted that prior to her request, an album would automatically play on “shuffle.” That setting is still available, but the user has to manually select it. If not, the album will play in order of how the tracks are listed.
Perhaps the change helps explain why Adele released “30” straight to Spotify this time, after delaying the streaming of her last album, 2015’s “25,” for over six months.
In turn, the British songstress continues to break records and generate enormous numbers across digital streaming services. Her single “Easy On Me” racked up 24 million views in 24 hours after its Oct. 15 release, setting a new record for the most-streamed song on Spotify in a single day.
Forbes reported that since the Nov. 19 release of “30,” the album accrued 60.7 million streams globally, placing her second behind Taylor Swift’s re-release of “Red,” which holds the current record at 90.8 million streams.
Adele also dominated ratings with her televised concert and interview event, “Adele: One Night Only.” The two-hour CBS special accrued 9.9 million views, making it the most-watched special since the Oscars.
