Acorn TV Greenlights a Second ‘Whitstable Pearl’Series

EXCLUSIVE:Acorn TV has ordered a second series in the UK crime drama “Acorn TV”. Whitstable pearlCineflix Rights has sold the show to a variety of international buyers.

Based on Julie Wassmer’s Whitstable Pearl Mysteries Buccaneer Media’s show features After Life’sKerry GodlimanShadow and Bone’sHoward Charles and James are two of the locals who solve crimes in the charming seaside town.

Season 2 will see Nolan, a celebrity chef, prioritize her detective work. She will transition from being a chef who solves crime to a full-time investigator who also happens to be the owner of a restaurant.

Production on the second series, which will consist of six parts, will start in Whitstable in the UK in February. The show will air on Acorn North America, New Zealand and Australia.

Distributor Cineflix has secured pre-sales for the second series in the Nordic region and sold the first to Sky Italia, NHK Japan, BBC Worldwide (Benelux) and NBCUniversal International Networks & Direct-to-Consumer for Universal TV in Africa.

Bucaneer media Joint CEOs Tony Wood, Richard Tulk–Hart stated: “The response to season one was more than we could have hoped for and now the audience knows the main characters, we can build on the parts of the show we know worked best.”

James Durie, Cineflix Rights Head for Scripted, has been added to the list: “These latest deals in Europe, Asia, and Africa further demonstrate the show’s strong international appeal.”

Wood and Tulk Hart were the first to produce the second. Whitstable pearl AlongsideWassmer, Anna Burns and Catherine MackinDAG’s Øystein Karlsen.
