Academy Announces Student Academy Award Winners

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the winners of its Student Academy Awards. All of them are eligible to compete in the 2022 Oscars.

The first edition of this ceremony did not differentiate between international and domestic submissions. Five films won were made in the U.S. by students at schools located there, while half of the others came from other countries.

The pool of 1,796 submissions came from 614 universities and colleges all over the globe. Past Student Academy Award winners included Spike Lee and Patricia Riggen, Spike Lee, Spike Lee, Spike Lee and Robert Zemeckis.

The winning films qualify to compete in the Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film and Documentary Short Film categories at next year’s Oscars ceremony. Student Academy winners have won 14 awards and received 65 nominations in the past.
