A McLaren sports car worth a million dollars was washed away in Florida floodwaters

The moment a McLaren P1 worth $1m was washed down Naples Street by floodwaters was captured on video as Category 4 Hurricane Ian roared through Florida.

Ernie, a luxury car enthusiast posted a series on Instagram showing his bright yellow car being carried in the floodwaters of his Naples neighborhood.

“Car went thru the garage,”He captioned a single post.

An earlier post showed the hybrid plug-in sports car. It had winged doors that could be opened and items were stored under the hood.

“My hurricane supply car,” Ernie wrote.

A third image shows McLaren submerged with a few household supplies before it was pulled through the garage.

“This was the picture before the P1 went thru the garage and The Rolls-Royce.

“This is water you see.” he captioned the post.

Thousands of people commented on the images of the submerged car, many of which expressed concern.

One person wrote: “It’s so hard to believe.”

“It’s absolutely devastating. Come back stronger [ than] ever, brother!” another added, while a third wrote: “Damn man. I hate to see this crap. I hope you’re all safe.”

Someone else added: “Even though it is a car I regret that you have to go through all of this. That’s dedication and hard work.”

Ernie had also posted videos to Instagram Stories that showed how the upscale neighbourhood was devastated, including flooded vehicles.

McLaren’s website states that the surface of the P1 is “designed to work, every part given the same aerodynamic consideration as if it was part of an aircraft or a Formula 1™ car.”

The car’s twin-turbo V8 motor produces a top speed of 217 mph.
