This Ethics & Fact-Checking Policy sets out the ethical standards Central Recorder Publishing follows and how we verify information before publishing it on centralrecorder.com.
1. Ethical Principles
Everyone who contributes to Central Recorder Publishing is held to these standards:
- Honesty and accuracy in all reporting
- Independence from advertisers, sponsors, and political interests
- Fair treatment of the subjects of our coverage
- Respect for privacy where there is no overriding public interest
- No plagiarism, fabrication, or misrepresentation
2. Fact-Checking Standards
We verify claims before publishing, drawing on reliable and where possible primary sources, and corroborating key facts across multiple sources. Fact, analysis, and opinion are kept clearly distinct.
3. Source Protection
Named, on-the-record sources are our preference. Anonymity is granted only for a genuine reason — for example when a source could be at risk — and where the public interest is served. We keep the commitments we make to sources.
4. Conflicts of Interest
Personal, financial, or political interests that could compromise our reporting, or the appearance of it, are avoided by our contributors; where a conflict is unavoidable, we make it known.
5. Original Work
Our content is original, and we credit the reporting, data, and ideas we draw from others. Passing off someone else’s work as our own is never acceptable.
6. Report a Concern
Ethical concerns about our content, or questions about this policy, can be raised through our Contact page.
