The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning today

As a result of this storm warning, residents should prepare for lightning damage to buildings, disruptions to public transport, and potential flooding in the warning zones.

This **yellow thunderstorm warning** encompasses all of Wales, the southwest of England, the Midlands, and parts of the southeast and north. The warning went live at 1 AM this morning and is set to remain active until midnight.

Another **yellow rain warning** will come into effect tomorrow for Wales and the central south-west of England, predicting 50mm to 70mm of rain over just a few hours, potentially accompanied by hail and frequent lightning.

Jason Kelly, a Met Office expert, stated: “The warnings cover the areas of the country most at risk of thunderstorms. However, it’s important to note that not everyone in these zones will experience a thunderstorm. For many, it will likely remain dry throughout much of the warning period.”

Forecaster Dan Harris said the wet weather should linger into next week, as “we expect a large area of persistent, and at times heavy, rain to develop by the end of Sunday. Southern parts of the UK will likely experience rain through at least the beginning of Monday, with some uncertainty regarding its precise location and the extensive rainfall amounts.”

Wind gusts wreaked havoc in Aldershot, Hampshire, where they swept through the town, damaging homes and uprooting trees yesterday. Firefighters responded to reports of a column of air moving through Aldershot around noon, ripping tiles from roofs and sending them flying across the street. Fortunately, no injuries were reported by a spokesperson for the local council, despite the fierce winds.
