27 People Saved from Floating Ice Damaged From Eastern Wisconsin Portion Of Green Bay Shore

According to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Saturday morning saw a large chunk of the frozen Green Bay from Wisconsin floating away with more than two dozen people.

Many of those rescued were ice fishers who were caught on the ice and were left stranded for approximately 90 minutes by authorities.

The rescue saw the hunk drift about three-quarters mile and end up about a mile away from the shore. CBS News.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Brown County Sheriff’s Office were able to rescue eight people at once using their airboats.

According to the sheriff’s office, a barge traveling through the bay might have been the cause for the break.

The sheriff’s office shared photos from the rescue and wrote, “Happy to report a good ending to this extremely dangerous situation!”
