Taylor Swift fans were stunned Thursday when Ticketmaster announced that Friday’s public ticket sales would be cancelled for the Eras Tour.
The platform had announced that over two million tickets were sold for her upcoming tour. This is the highest number of tickets an artist has ever sold in one day.
According to the company’s explanation, yesterday’s massive slowdown caused by the flood of visitors was a frustration for those who purchased verified pre-sale tickets and were then left without tickets.
Ticketmaster attributed the strain on their site to bots, and explained the situation in a blog posting: “Never before has a Verified Fan on sale sparked so much attention – or uninvited volume. This disrupted the predictability and reliability that is the hallmark of our Verified Fan platform.”
On Thursday afternoon, the Twitter account for Ticketmaster posted: “Tomorrow’s public on sale for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has been cancelled.”
It led to a furious reaction from fans – although many of the responses were pretty funny.
Ticketmaster is even under legal scrutiny for the chaos.
In a letter AddressedSen. Amy Klobuchar shared her story with the president and chief executive officer of Ticketmaster’s parent company, Live Nation Entertainment Inc. “serious concerns about the state of competition in the ticketing industry and its harmful impact on consumers.”
“Ticketmaster’s power in the primary ticket market insulates it from the competitive pressures that typically push companies to innovate and improve their services,”Before adding: “That can result in the types of dramatic service failures we saw this week, where consumers are the ones that pay the price.”
Perhaps if Biden can find a solution, then the next electoral map could look like this:
While we don’t think some fans are exaggerating it, Wednesday’s issues were above the fears of World War 3 erupting.
Everyone, take deep breaths!
