1-Year-Old Girl Dressed Up as Queen Receives a Message from Royal in Letter

One-year-old girl dressed up as the Queen for Halloween went viral after she received a letter at Windsor Castle from the monarch with a message about her “splendid outfit.”

Katelyn Sutherland, who is based in Kentucky, told Insider she dressed her daughter Jalayne as the royal for Halloween after brainstorming costume ideas that would incorporate the toddler’s two closest companions: corgis Rascal and Uncle of Jack.

“Jalayne absolutely loves her pups,” Katelyn said. “It’s almost like they are a package deal, and we couldn’t think of any better way to portray the friendship between her and her dogs.”

Katelyn explained that she was inspired to send a photo Jalayne dressed up to the Queen by images she shared of her royal-inspired Halloween costume. Facebook public postIt received hundreds of comments and likes.

Katelyn wrote a letter to Queen Elizabeth in November. She included a photo of Jalayne wearing her blue double-breasted coat, matching hat, white hair, pearls, gloves, and matching wig.

In December, Katelyn reported that she had received a reply from Windsor Castle. Central RecorderReport first published Sunday.

The Honorary Dame Mary Morrison wrote this letter, which appears to have been written by a lady-in–waiting for Queen Elizabeth. “The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for your letter, and for the photograph you thoughtfully enclosed.”

“Her Majesty thought it kind of you to write to her, and The Queen was pleased to see the photograph of your daughter, Jalayne, in her splendid outfit,”The letter continued. The letter also contained information about Queen Elizabeth’s royal pets.

Katelyn claimed that she sent the photo to her without expecting any response.

“We were exhilarated and a little in shock honestly,”She said. “It’s something that we will cherish forever.”

The Queen, like Jalayne has been a corgi lover since childhood. Insider reported previously that the monarch has had more corgis than 30 times since 1945. The Queen currently has one dog, a corgi dachshund. “dorgi” named Candy, remaining.

Insider reached out to Windsor Castle representatives but they did not respond immediately.
